The lockdown
2018+ Stellantis makes the programming network read-only. No write = no new key.
I'm Leo. I cut and program keys at your vehicle for the Stellantis car-and-truck side — Ram 1500 and HD trucks, Dodge Charger, Challenger and Durango, Chrysler 300, Pacifica and Voyager. The 2018+ Security Gateway (SGW) that makes most aftermarket locksmiths say "I can read it but I can't program it" isn't a barrier here — I have dealer-level access with a current Stellantis licence and the right blanks on hand. 2018+ Security Gateway
The reason most locksmiths turn down newer Ram / Dodge / Chrysler.
The lockdown

Why they bounce
"I can read it but I can't program it" = no Security Gateway access.
I'm equipped for it
Dealer-level access + current Stellantis licence = the job gets done on-site.

2018+ Ram / Dodge / Chrysler · the key detail
If your Ram, Dodge, or Chrysler is a 2018-or-newer model, there's a hardware module called the Security Gateway (SGW) between the vehicle's programming network and the rest of the car. By default it makes that network read-only — a scan tool can read diagnostic data but can't write anything, including registering a new key. Stellantis added it to slow down theft, and the side effect is that any locksmith without dealer-level Security Gateway access is physically blocked from cutting you a key.
You called a locksmith, they came to your 2019 Ram 1500 or your Pacifica, plugged in, and said "I can read it but I can't program it." That's the Security Gateway lockdown — not the locksmith doing anything wrong. They simply don't have the write access.
Dealer-level access with a current Stellantis software licence, so I can write to a Security Gateway–locked module and register a new key. Plus FobIK and proximity blanks on hand for the common Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler platforms, and NASTF VSP authorization for ownership-verified key generation.
Roughly 2018 onward: 5th-gen Ram 1500 (2019+) and HD trucks, Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager, newer Durango. Pre-2018 platforms — older Charger, Challenger, 300, Grand Caravan, 4th-gen Ram — don't have SGW and are more straightforward (and cheaper).
Ram · Dodge · Chrysler
Trucks, performance cars, and family haulers — transponder, FobIK, or 2018+ proximity with Security Gateway. Year and trim decide the key, so text me both for an exact quote.
2009–2018 (4th) · 2019+ (5th)
One of the most common trucks in Winnipeg. 4th gen (DS) and Ram Classic (sold until 2023) are FobIK / Smart Key without SGW. 5th gen (DT, 2019+) is SGW-protected. Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Limited, TRX all share the key family within a generation.
Heavy Duty · 2010+
Same key architecture as the 1500 by generation — the Cummins diesel HD trucks use the same FobIK / Smart Key as the gas trucks. Power Wagon, Laramie Longhorn, Limited included. 2019+ HD is SGW-protected.
Full-size van · 2014+
Fiat-derived platform but runs the Stellantis North American key flow. Common with Winnipeg trades and delivery operators. Work-van keys often need extra ownership verification — I'll tell you what to have ready.
2008+ (LC/LD)
FobIK push-button on most trims. R/T, Scat Pack, SRT, Hellcat, Demon all use the same key as the base trim of that year. Discontinued after 2023 — keys still well-supported. Older LX Charger (2006–2010) is the earlier, cheaper transponder system.
2011+ (3rd gen)
Shares the Grand Cherokee platform and programming flow. SRT 392 and Hellcat keys identical to the base R/T. Newer Durango carries the Security Gateway module — text the year so I can confirm.
2008–2020 (discontinued)
Still everywhere in Winnipeg as a used family vehicle. Older Sentry Key / CAN transponder + remote — no Security Gateway, so spare and all-keys-lost are both straightforward and at the cheaper end of my range.
2005–2010 (LX) · 2011–2023 (LD)
LD 300 (2011–2023) is FobIK push-button on Touring, Limited, S, and 300C. SRT8 and 300C Final Edition use the same key. Older LX 300 (2005–2010) is the earlier transponder system. Production ended in 2023.
2017+ / 2020+
Replaced the Town & Country in 2017. Proximity fob + push-button; 2018+ are SGW-protected. Pacifica Hybrid (PHEV) uses the same key as the gas model. Voyager is the budget-trim Pacifica — same platform and key.
Various, discontinued
Chrysler Town & Country (to 2016), Sebring, 200, and Dodge Journey all run the older Sentry Key / CAN family — well-supported transponder + remote, no SGW, cheaper end of the range. Text the year and model.
Ram / Dodge / Chrysler pricing
Open-ended starting prices. Pre-2018 platforms run at the floor; 2018+ Security Gateway models (5th-gen Ram 1500, Pacifica, newer Durango) sit higher because the SGW access step adds time. Written quote by text before I dispatch.
Spare / extra key
$90+ transponder
$160+ remote head / flip
$180+ fobik / smart key
Cut and programmed at your vehicle. Most Ram, Dodge, Chrysler. Pre-2018 at the floor; 5th-gen Ram 1500 / Pacifica with SGW sit higher due to the Security Gateway access step. See spare key page.
Lost all keys (AKL)
$280+
New key generated at your vehicle with ownership verification (photo ID matched to registration or proof of insurance in your name) — including on 2018+ SGW trucks. Compare to forum-reported dealer pricing of $250–$500+ plus a $100–$250 tow. See lost-keys page.
Fob programming only
$90+ you bring it
$90+ I supply
Bring a reputable aftermarket FobIK and the programming is labour-only at $90+; or I supply a basic remote — same $90+ floor. A push-button-start proximity FobIK is a pricier part — that's the spare / AKL pricing above, not a $90 basic-fob job. Fob programming details →
Manitoba PST 7% + GST 5% = 12% added to the total. Distance fees case-by-case (typically free inside the Perimeter). Payment by e-transfer, tap, or cash — after the key works. Full pricing on the pricing page. Other Stellantis: Jeep. Full vehicle list on vehicles I service.

Yes. The 5th-generation Ram 1500 (2019+) has a Security Gateway (SGW) module that makes the vehicle's programming network read-only by default — which is why an aftermarket locksmith without dealer-level Security Gateway access physically cannot write a new key to the immobilizer. I'm equipped for SGW-protected Stellantis vehicles, so 2019+ Ram 1500 (and 2500/3500 HD) keys are reliable one-trip jobs at your truck. The 4th-gen Ram 1500 (2009–2018) and the Ram Classic don't have SGW and are more straightforward.
That's the 2018+ Security Gateway lockdown, not the locksmith's fault. On 2018-and-newer Stellantis vehicles a hardware module sits between the programming network and the rest of the car and blocks writes unless you have the proper dealer-level access. A shop without it can plug in and read diagnostic data but can't add a key. I have the Security Gateway access and a current Stellantis software licence, so I can finish the job. Text me the year/model and I'll tell you straight whether yours is SGW-protected.
Spare or extra key starts at $90+ for a transponder key and $180+ for a FobIK or proximity Smart Key, if I supply. Less if you bring your own reputable aftermarket fob. Lost all keys (AKL) starts at $280+. Fob programming on its own starts at $90+. Pre-2018 platforms (older Charger, Caravan, 300, 4th-gen Ram) sit at the floor; 2018+ SGW platforms (5th-gen Ram 1500, Pacifica, newer Durango) sit higher because the Security Gateway access step adds time. Written quote by text before I dispatch — the number I send is the number you pay.
Yes. Charger (LD, 2011+) and Challenger (LC, 2008+) run the FobIK push-button family. The performance trims — R/T, Scat Pack, SRT, Hellcat, Demon — all use the same key as the base SXT of that year, so there's no special variant to worry about. Both were discontinued at the end of 2023 but the keys are well-supported aftermarket. Older LX Charger (2006–2010) uses the earlier transponder system and is a cheaper job.
Yes, and they're common in Winnipeg. The Dodge Grand Caravan (discontinued 2020) and Chrysler Town & Country (replaced by Pacifica in 2017) use the older Sentry Key / CAN transponder family — well-supported, no Security Gateway concerns, so spare keys and all-keys-lost are both straightforward and sit at the cheaper end of my Stellantis range. The newer Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager (2017+) are proximity Smart Key and 2018+ are SGW-protected.
Yes. The full-size Ram ProMaster (2014+) runs the Stellantis North American key flow even though the platform is Fiat-derived. It's common with trades and delivery operators here. One note: work-van keys often need extra ownership verification, because vans are more frequently disputed or fleet-owned assets — text me the year and I'll tell you what proof to have ready.
Yes — that's the all-keys-lost (AKL) job, and on a Ram, Dodge, or Chrysler the key question is whether you're on a 2018+ Security Gateway (SGW) platform. Using dealer-level access — the same information the dealership works from — I cut a fresh blade and program a new FobIK or Smart Key into your immobilizer on-site in Winnipeg, including SGW vehicles, no dealer tow. Before I start I verify ownership — photo ID matched to your registration or proof of insurance in your name — and if the documents are locked inside, I run the lockout first so you can pull them.
Year / model / trim tells me the key type and whether Security Gateway is in play. Or just send a photo of the existing key.
If another locksmith couldn't program it, it's almost certainly the Security Gateway — and that's exactly what I'm equipped for. Written quote before I dispatch, cut and programmed on-site. Pay after the key works.
