Nissan & Infiniti key replacement in Winnipeg — Intelligent Key or transponder.

I'm Leo. I cut and program Nissan and Infiniti keys at your vehicle — Rogue, Altima, Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Murano, Pathfinder, Frontier, Titan, and the Infiniti QX line. Nissan went keyless early, so even older models often run the Intelligent Key (I-Key) proximity fob — which has a precise programming sequence most aftermarket shops fumble. I do it right, on-site, with dealer-level access and the common blanks on hand (rarer ones I order in). Written quote before I dispatch.

What makes a Nissan key its own thing

The Nissan Intelligent Key — and the trick for when it dies.

Nissan was one of the first brands to go keyless, so the Intelligent Key (I-Key) proximity fob shows up on a lot of Nissans and Infinitis — not just the new ones. It's convenient until the battery dies. Here's what's actually going on, and how to keep moving.

Intelligent Key vs. a plain transponder key

An Intelligent Key talks to the car wirelessly — you keep it in your pocket, the door unlocks on touch, and you start with a button. A plain transponder key (older Versa, Sentra, Frontier) still has a chip that has to match the car, but you physically insert and turn it. Both have to be programmed to the vehicle, not just cut — that's the part a hardware-store copy can't do. I handle both at your car.

Which battery, and the swap gotcha

Intelligent Keys use a coin cell — commonly a CR2032, with some taking a CR2025. Slide the hidden mechanical key out first, then split the case at the seam. Read the number on the old battery and match it — and note which way the plus (+) side faces, because a reversed battery is the most common reason a fob "dies" right after a swap. A battery swap never needs reprogramming.

Dead Intelligent Key? You can still get in and go.

Worth knowing before −30 in a Winnipeg parking lot — a dead fob battery doesn't strand you:

1

Slide the release on the fob and pull out the hidden mechanical key — it unlocks the driver's door by hand.

2

Get in, press and hold the brake pedal.

3

Touch the Intelligent Key to the START/STOP button, then press it — the button reads the chip up close even with no battery.

If a fresh, correctly-seated battery still doesn't bring the remote back, it's a programming or hardware issue — that's where I come in, on-site. More on fob programming →

The Nissan lineup

Nissan models I cut and program.

Rogue is by far my most common Nissan job, but the whole lineup is in scope — transponder or Intelligent Key. Year and trim decide which, so text me both (or a photo of your existing key) for an exact quote.

Rogue

SUV · 2008+

My most common Nissan by a wide margin. Mostly Intelligent Key proximity, especially 2014+. The 2021+ redesign and Rogue Sport (Qashqai) are full push-button — the fob puts them in the higher pricing tier.

Altima + Maxima

Sedan · 2007+

Altima was an early Intelligent Key car — many have push-button start going well back. Maxima (Nissan's flagship sedan, discontinued after 2023) runs the same I-Key family. Common spare-key and AKL jobs.

Sentra + Versa + Kicks

Compact · various

The value end. Older Versa and Sentra are transponder turn-key at the floor; newer Sentra (2020+) and Kicks move to Intelligent Key on higher trims. Text the year and trim — this group splits between the two key types.

Pathfinder + Murano + Armada

SUV · 2013+

The mid and full-size SUVs — almost all Intelligent Key with push-button start. Armada (and its Infiniti QX80 twin) is the big body-on-frame SUV. Same programming family across the three.

Frontier + Titan

Trucks · 2005+

Older Frontier and Titan are transponder; the 2022+ Frontier redesign and recent Titan run Intelligent Key. Work-truck keys sometimes need extra ownership verification — I'll let you know up front.

Leaf + Ariya (EV)

Electric · 2011+ / 2023+

Leaf uses the same Intelligent Key family as the gas lineup of its year. Ariya (2023+) is on Nissan's newest platform — text me the year so I can confirm scope before I dispatch.

Infiniti — Nissan's luxury line

QX50, QX60, QX80, Q50, and Q60 run the same Intelligent Key family as the Nissan side, generation for generation — almost all proximity push-button, so they sit in the higher tier. QX60 shares its platform with the Pathfinder, QX80 with the Armada. In scope; text me the model and year and I'll confirm the exact key and quote.

Intelligent Key tier

Older or rarer — Juke, Cube, 370Z / 350Z, Quest, Xterra, NV vans? Still in scope. Text the year and model and I'll confirm.

Nissan + Infiniti pricing

What a Nissan or Infiniti key actually costs.

Open-ended starting prices. Older transponder Nissans sit at the floor; Intelligent Key proximity fobs sit higher because the fob hardware costs more. A fob battery you can do yourself for about $5. Written quote by text before I dispatch.

Spare / extra key

Spare Nissan key or Intelligent Key

$90+ transponder

$160+ remote head / flip

$180+ intelligent key

Cut and programmed at your vehicle. All Nissan + Infiniti models. Transponder keys at the floor; Intelligent Key proximity fobs sit higher in the range. Full breakdown on the spare key page.

Lost all keys (AKL)

All-keys-lost replacement

$280+

A brand-new Nissan or Infiniti Intelligent Key, programmed to your car on-site once ownership is confirmed. No parts-order wait, no tow to the dealer, and no service-bay queue. Details on the lost-keys page.

Fob programming / battery

BYO fob or supply + program

$90+ you bring it

$90+ I supply

Bring a reputable aftermarket Nissan fob and it's labour-only at $90+; or I supply a basic remote — same $90+ floor. A push-button Intelligent Key is a pricier part (spare pricing above), not a $90 basic-fob job. A plain battery swap isn't worth a service call — do it yourself for ~$5 (see above). Manitoba PST 7% + GST 5% = 12% added to the total. Distance fees case-by-case (typically free inside the Perimeter). Payment by e-transfer, tap, or cash — after the key works. Full pricing transparency including supply-your-own-fob policy on the pricing page. Other brand pages: Toyota · Honda / Acura · Mazda. Full vehicle list on vehicles I service.

Nissan & Infiniti key questions, answered.

These cover Nissan and Infiniti — for general service, pricing, and process questions, see the dedicated spare, lost-keys, and fob pages, or the full FAQ page.

What is a Nissan Intelligent Key, and can you replace it?

Intelligent Key (I-Key) is Nissan's name for its proximity Smart Key — the fob that lets you unlock and push-button-start without taking it out of your pocket. Nissan was an early adopter (it's been around since the early 2000s and is shared with Infiniti), so even a lot of older Nissans have it. Yes, I cut and program both Intelligent Keys and the older transponder/remote keys at your vehicle. Rogue, Altima, Sentra, Pathfinder, Murano and the Infiniti QX line are all in scope — text me the year, model, and trim for an exact quote.

My Nissan key fob is dead — how do I get in and start it?

Two steps. To get in: there's a hidden mechanical key inside the Intelligent Key — slide the release and pull it out to unlock the driver's door by hand. To start it: press the brake, then touch the fob to the START/STOP button and push — the button reads the chip up close even with a dead battery. Worth knowing before −30 in a Winnipeg parking lot. If a fresh coin-cell battery doesn't bring the remote back, it's a programming or hardware issue and I can sort it on-site.

How much does a Nissan or Infiniti key replacement cost in Winnipeg?

Spare or extra key starts at $90+ for a transponder key and $180+ for an Intelligent Key proximity fob, if I supply. Less if you bring your own reputable aftermarket fob. Lost all keys (AKL) starts at $280+. Fob programming on its own starts at $90+. Older transponder Nissans (Versa, older Sentra/Frontier) sit at the floor; push-button Intelligent Key models (most Rogue, Pathfinder, Murano, the Infiniti QX line) sit higher because the fob hardware costs more. Written quote by text before I dispatch — the number I send is the number you pay.

Do you program push-button (Intelligent Key) Nissan all-keys-lost on-site?

Yes. I have dealer-level access — information, hardware, and software — for most Nissan and Infiniti platforms across the transponder and Intelligent Key lineup. Nissan's Intelligent Key programming has a precise sequence and timing, so it's a job where doing it right matters — it's a reliable one-trip job at your vehicle, no tow, no dealer queue. The newest 2023+ platforms (and the EV side) tighten things up; text me the exact year, model, and trim first and I'll confirm scope before I dispatch.

Do you do Infiniti keys too?

Yes. Infiniti is Nissan's luxury line (QX50, QX60, QX80, Q50, Q60) and runs the same Intelligent Key family as the Nissan side, generation for generation. Almost all Infiniti models are proximity Intelligent Key, so they sit in the higher pricing tier. Text me the model and year and I'll confirm the exact key and the quote before I dispatch.

What battery does my Nissan Intelligent Key take?

Nissan and Infiniti Intelligent Keys use a small coin-cell battery — commonly a CR2032, with some fobs taking a CR2025. They look almost identical, so don't guess: open the fob (slide out the mechanical key first, then split the case at the seam), read the number printed on the old battery, and match it. It's a $5 part at any Canadian Tire or drugstore, and a battery swap never needs reprogramming. If a fresh, correctly-seated battery doesn't fix the remote, text me — that's a programming or hardware issue I can handle on-site.

Can you make a Nissan key if I have no key at all?

Yes — that's the all-keys-lost (AKL) job, and on most modern Nissans it means programming a new Intelligent Key to the car from scratch. Using dealer-level access — the same information the dealership works from — I cut a fresh blade and program a new transponder or Intelligent Key into your Nissan's immobilizer on-site in Winnipeg, no dealer tow. Before I start I verify ownership — photo ID matched to your registration or proof of insurance in your name — and if your documents are locked inside, I run the lockout first so you can reach them. Infiniti runs the same flow.
