This policy explains the warranty I put behind the keys, fobs, and programming work I do. It's written plainly on purpose — if something I supplied fails because it was defective, I want you to know exactly what I'll do about it, and what falls outside the coverage.
RAXO Locksmiths is a trade name of RAXO Group Inc. (Manitoba corporation #10249209). This policy covers work performed and parts supplied by RAXO Locksmiths. For a written quote on any job, just text me the details first.
In this document
1.What I cover
I warranty the parts I supply — car keys, remote fobs, proximity (smart) keys, transponders, and key blanks — for 1 year (12 months) from the date of the job against manufacturer defects.
If a key or fob I supplied stops working because the part itself was defective — the electronics fail, a button quits responding, the transponder dies on its own — I repair or replace it at no charge within that 12-month window. No charge for the replacement part, and no charge to cut and program it again.
2.The pay-after-it-works guarantee
The work itself — cutting and programming — is covered by a simple rule: if a key doesn't work when I'm done because of something on my end, and the vehicle is otherwise fine, you don't pay for that work. I don't take payment until the key cuts, programs, starts the car, and operates the locks.
Two things sit outside that rule, and I'm upfront about both before any money changes hands:
- If I arrive and the vehicle has a condition that prevents me from finishing — a security fault, an unresponsive immobilizer, or another vehicle-side issue I couldn't know about from the quote — a $35 service call fee applies for the trip and diagnostic.
- If you supplied the part yourself and it turns out to be defective or mismatched, the labour for the programming attempt still applies — see section 4.
3.What the warranty does not cover
The warranty is for manufacturer defects only. It does not cover:
- Water or liquid damage — a fob that has been through the wash, dropped in a puddle, or otherwise exposed to moisture.
- Physical damage — dropped, run over, crushed, bent, a cracked or broken case, or a snapped key blade.
- Lost or stolen keys and fobs.
- Dead batteries and normal wear — the coin-cell battery in a fob is a consumable, so a flat battery is not a defect.
- Misuse or unauthorized modification — damage from tampering, opening the case incorrectly, or having someone else re-work the key afterward.
- Vehicle-side problems — a fault in the car's immobilizer, wiring, or electronics is not a defect in the key I supplied.
- Parts you supplied yourself — covered in the next section.
4.Parts you supply yourself
If you bring your own key or fob and I program it, the part is not covered by my warranty — that sits with whoever sold it to you. I stand behind my work, not a part I didn't supply.
If a fob you brought turns out to be defective or mismatched, the labour for the programming attempt still applies — the time and tooling are real either way — and the part itself is between you and the seller. If I'm suspicious of a fob based on its brand or condition, I'll tell you before I start so you can decide whether to proceed or order a different one. No surprises after the fact.
5.How to make a claim
It's straightforward:
- Text or email me with your year, make, and model, roughly when the original job was done, and what's going wrong with the key or fob. A photo or short video of the problem helps.
- I'll figure out whether it looks like a covered defect or one of the exclusions above.
- If it's a covered defect within 12 months, I repair or replace the part at no charge — including re-cutting and re-programming the replacement.
You don't pay anything for a valid defect claim inside the warranty period.
6.What I'll need from you
- Proof of the original job — your receipt or the text thread between us is enough. I keep records on my end too.
- The failed key or fob, available for me to inspect. I can't warranty a part I can't see.
- The vehicle present, since a replacement key has to be cut and programmed to it on-site.
7.Coverage period and transferability
The warranty runs for 12 months from the date of the original job. It applies to the specific part I supplied and the specific vehicle it was made for. It is non-transferable — it doesn't carry over to a different vehicle, or to a new owner if you sell the car.
8.Limitations
Where a defect is covered, my responsibility is limited to repairing or replacing the defective part and re-doing the programming for it. To the extent the law allows, I'm not responsible for indirect or consequential costs — towing, missed appointments, lost time, or similar — arising from a part failure.
Nothing in this policy takes away rights you may have under Manitoba consumer-protection law. Customer-supplied parts and questions of compatibility are also addressed in my Terms of Service.
